The nerds have long had their revenge since the term was coined. We now live the era of the nerd. After all, techies are the new power elite. Laughing at comic book nerds and cosplay geeks really marks one as outdated and out of touch. After all, Starwars, Star Trek and comic books are really our modern mythos. They are our new legends. The fans have slowly morphed into a new breed. The women are hot and the costumes are flawless. At these conventions, imagination really does rule the day.
L.A. photographer Kevin Knight gets this. He avoids the mocking “what are they thinking” attitude most photographers have when shooting cosplay and lends his subjects an air of coolness and dignity that they (at least some of them) deserve.
