Joan Crawford’s Corpse: No PR Agents For The Dead

Actress and famous child abuser, Joan Crawford

Death by Party | No wire coat hangers

This entry is brought to you courtesy of our month-long homage to Women’s History Month, “The Female Power Project.”

We’ve got another birthday to celebrate. It’s Joan Crawford’s birthday today, or it would be if she was still alive.  Joan Crawford- timeless model, classic movie star, social activist, female icon, drag queen favorite, alcoholic, child abuser, bipolar nutcase. The actress was the physical personification of sophistication, style and grace for the better part of the last century. But alas, now most people remember her for her adopted daughters heart wrenching tell all book & movie about the vicious abuse the daughter suffered at her mothers hands. If you asked most people to name a movie Joan was in they would probably say Mommy Dearest; not being able to distinguish between Faye Dunaway and the real actress.

There is a lesson to be learned about trying to carefully control your public image. In the real world, what you see is rarely what you get, but eventually shit will come back to bite you. Sometimes it’s not till after you’re dead. Joan would be eternally rolling in her grave if she knew what she has come to represent, but the dead don’t get PR agents.
